Careers

When deciding whether to work for an organisation you need to understand its basic philosophy, objectives and goals...

Here at McKays, we pride ourselves on being a friendly and open place to work.

We offer a mentoring program to all employees, which means that you will have support and guidance throughout all stages of your career.

Our management style is inclusive – we involve our people in the decision making process and we work together as a team in developing and implementing our policies and procedures.

Our principals understand that the relationship with each employee must not only give the practice what it wants but also should accommodate the needs and requirements of the employee. In short, it must be a win-win relationship.

We use the latest technology and have a firm commitment to the continuing development of the knowledge and skills of our people.

We take great pride in the fact that McKays has the reputation of being one of the best places to work in Mackay.

Solicitors and Lawyers

Our solicitors are encouraged to focus on one or two areas of law to be able to offer our clients the highest quality of legal advice. We offer a structured career progression program, with one-on-one support from your supervisor and mentor. As well as providing in-house training programs such as our ‘Emerging Lawyers Program’ for newly admitted lawyers and regular ‘Sharing of Knowledge’ meetings for all team members, we strongly encourage our practitioners to develop their technical skills through external CPD events and activities.

Due to growth, we are currently seeking expressions of interest from solicitors with experience in commercial and/or litigation areas.  Please email recruitment@mckayslaw.com or contact our Human Resources Manager in Mackay on (07) 4963 0888 with details of your employment history and areas of expertise. All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Graduate Program

As a Graduate, you will typically work full time while completing a trainee solicitor program. You will spend time in several different areas of the practice, gaining valuable experience such as client service, file management, time management, drafting and problem solving, before settling into your niche area with the practice. We will also provide you with training and mentoring in relation to marketing and business development and other essential skills to fast track your career progression with us.

Work Experience and Vacation Clerkships

We encourage university students to join us during their vacation periods on our voluntary work experience program. Typically lasting for one to two weeks, you will experience life at McKays, shadowing our solicitors and completing tasks and research, based on real legal scenarios. You will also meet and spend time with our team of friendly lawyers in Mackay, who will talk to you about what to expect once you have graduated.

University students who have successfully completed work experience with us are welcome to apply for paid vacation clerkships or part time work to fit in with their study commitments.
