If so, we would love to chat to you about the McKays Solicitors ‘Law Student Program’.

Over the past twenty years, we have successfully helped numerous law students fast track their career, by working with us while their complete their university studies. We usually have between five and ten law students working with us at any one time, and we are keen to add to those numbers.

Most universities now offer their degrees via distance learning, meaning that you can work (full or part time), while completing your law degree.

There are so many advantages to this approach including:

• Flexibility - We offer a range of employment options from casual, to part and full time contracts. Law Students are able to easily balance their work and study commitments during term time, and regularly offer to increase their hours during their vacation periods. Law students are also able to apply for time off for exam periods, or during assessment blocks. We are familiar with the pressure you are under as a law student, and are understanding of your need for flexibility.

• Practical work experience - Most law students graduate from university with little or no practical work experience. By working for a law firm while you study, you could be two or three years ahead of your peers when they graduate.

• Earn while you learn - One of the major advantages to working with us while you study, is the income you will receive, allowing you to support yourself, pay for holidays and trips away, save for a car, or even your first home, and reduce your student debts.

• Mentoring and coaching from solicitors - Being surrounded by qualified lawyers, all of whom have completed their law degrees, you will have direct access to experienced practitioners who can guide and mentor you as your progress through your studies.

• Develop a network of friends and contacts - While working with us, you will be introduced to other law students, law graduates and like minded professionals from other industries. These relationships often lead to life-long friendships and, from a professional point of view, provide established networks and referral sources before you even finish your degree.

• Set your own pace - Those on our Law Student Program choose the pace at which they study, with some students electing to complete summer or third trimesters in order to complete their studies more quickly.

• Maintain your ties with friends and family - While the excitement of moving to a big city might appeal to some, it’s not for everyone. Working in Mackay while you study can allow you to be closer to friends and family (including benefitting from reduced living costs), yet, you will still be just a short flight away from the capital city for shopping, weekend getaways to visit friends, and to attend music festivals and gigs.
